Avon BB Cream Review

In my Beauty Booty post at HeBlogs-SheBlogs, I mentioned buying Avon BB Cream.  And since then, I’ve been getting views for that post via keywords search na “Avon BB Cream Review”.  So, I thought dito ko na lang gawan ng review sa Binibining Filipina, after all Avon is a brand more popular in the Philippines.  Tulad nang nasabi ko nga sa HeBlogs-SheBlogs, Avon is my favorite brand…at bakit hindi? Well, maganda naman siya gamitin at higit sa lahat super affordable. It may not be as glamorous as high-end makeup brands, pero pwedeng-pwede na. Lalo na sa mga not-so-can afford like me.  Although of course, I’d still want to have higher end brands in my kit as long as I get them on sale or for free ;)

Hey, just want to get this straight…This is NOT a sponsored post ha? Although you would surely read a lot about Avon in this blog, kasi Avon Lady si Mami ko. San pa ba ako bibili? Hehe…

Anyway, here’s an excerpt from the Beauty Booty post:

“… did you know that Avon has already joined the bandwagon of BB Creams?  The hailed miracle balm for facial blemishes. Yes, it has!  And I bought one because I wanted to see what’s with the hype about these so called Blemish Base, Blemish Balm, or Beauty Balm.  Is it really a miracle cream as what people say?

Anyway, here it is, Avon Healthy Makeup Hydrating BB Cream with SPF 30+/PA+++ in nude color.

Oh, if you haven’t heard of BB Creams and have no inkling as to what they are and what they’re supposed to do, here’s a description from Wikipedia:

“BB cream stands for blemish balm, blemish base, or beblesh balm (apparently because of a copyright in Korea on the word "blemish"), and in Western markets, beauty balm. It is a cosmetic item sold mainly in East and Southeast Asia, although larger beauty brands are increasingly introducing BB creams to Western markets.

BB cream is promoted as an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock. It can be worn alone as a tinted moisturizer, over serum and moisturizer as a regular foundation, and under powder, depending on the desired amount of coverage.

What was to become BB Cream was originally formulated in the 1960s in Germany by dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek to protect her patients' skin after surgery. Introduced to South Korea and Japan in 1985 – where healthy-looking, porcelain skin is heavily prized – the cream was hailed as "the secret of Korean actresses," and was heavily endorsed by Korean celebrities.”

Pero ngayon, sikat na sikat na ang BB cream sa buong mundo. Even expensive makeup brands like Body Shop, Origins, MAC, and Smashbox already have their own versions of the miracle balm na formulated to be more suitable for Caucasian skin. And now, Avon has also joined the BB Cream band wagon with its Avon Healthy Makeup Hydrating BB Cream with SPF 30+/PA+++. Kung tatanuningin nyo ako what are SPF and PA+++, all I know about them is they are some kind of sunscreen protection for the skin. Siguro separate blog na lang for that, so I can proceed with my Avon BB Cream review.

So, ano bang masasabi ko about Avon’s version of BB Cream?

This is the first BB Cream I have ever used so I have no point of comparison with other brands. Hindi rin naman ako gumagamit ng primers; except maybe for a couple of occasions when my face was done by a Make up artist (MUA) in a movie ;) and at a wedding. But I can dare say na it’s a lot better than any foundation, so it stayed true naman sa BB Cream promise.

I like the coverage it gives my face. Hindi siya too thick or sticky, unlike other liquid foundations at hindi rin naman mahirap i-apply unlike loose mineral foundations. I also have Avon mineral foundation kasi and it takes time for me to spread it evenly on my face. This BB cream, all you need is a pea-size amount dotted on your T-zone and then spread outward. You may use your bare fingers or foundation brush, which is what I prefer.

Like what BB creams promise, you may use it alone if you just want protection for your face against the sun.  Kasi nga it has SPF 30. Sabi nila, if you use BB cream regularly, it will improve your skin kasi it’s not just make up daw. It’s also a skincare product. I don’t know how true that is, but so far it’s good on my face naman.

Here’s my first try with moisturizer underneath and face powder finish on top:

As for staying power, it lasted 8 hours on my face with only a bit of shine. That is indoors nga lang, pero walang aircon ha? At sunny weather. But then again, hindi rin naman kasi ako oily skin. Actually, I’m a bit on the dry side kaya it is good for me because it is “hydrating” nga. Kaya meron pa rin konting shine and medyo dewy lang ang look. Or it could be just the flash of the camera.

Here are my pictures after 8 hours without retouch:

For oily skin, I would suggest siguro na skip the moisturizer when using Avon BB cream so you won’t get oily after a few hours. Another tip, brush only in one direction per area. Wag paikot-ikot kasi mamumuo siya at mahirap na i-blend ulit. Basta relaxed brushing lang outward ng face from the middle of the face. Down side lang siguro for Avon BB Cream is that it only comes in one shade, which is nude. So I'm not sure now it would look like on very fair or very dark skin.

I guess all in all, Avon BB Cream is worth the price, even at its regular price of Php399 for 18g because it has good coverage at a small amount. Well, depending on what you want or need din. If you need full coverage, as in full makeup galore, siempre mas madami. Pero siempre, why buy at the regular prize kung meron naman laging Avon sale, diba? Like on November 1-15 brochure, you can buy it at P259 – P140 savings din yun!  Kaya order na! …sa amin. Hehe ;)
